From the leader in industrial process and wastewater equipment.
A key product in our wastewater line is the Ellis Oil Water Separator (OWS), one of the most efficient products available. A process structure, usually fabricated tank, is furnished with media and configured to facilitate separation of free oil and suspended solids from water by coalescing and settling. The separated products are directed to and collected in an oil reservoir and a sludge chamber prior to removal.
A number of options are available for the OWS (see list below) and it may be coupled with custom emulsion breaking techniques and used in combination with other Ellis Corporation manufactured equipment such as Inclined Plate Clarification, Dissolved Air Flotation, Pressure Filtration or custom Sorption Systems.
SUPERIOR DESIGN FEATURES
The Ellis Oil Water Separator is designed for flow to 5,000 gpm. Special design features, additional options and a variety of custom features make the Ellis OWS the most efficient unit of its kind. The optional stainless steel shell, with its inherent superior abrasive and corrosion resistance properties, eliminate the requirement for annual inspection and possible recoating of carbon steel constructed units.
COALESCING MEDIA
With coalescing media, the unit can produce an effluent containing 10 ppm or less of free oil. Due to the chemical nature of PNA's, chlorinated and aromatic organics, alternate materials of construction are recommended: stainless steel, polyethylene or polypropylene.

Coalescing media are generally oleophilic material used to increase the size of oil droplets. Placed in the flow path of oily water, it operates on the basis of collision and impingement of the oil droplets onto the surface of the media. The fine separated oil droplets flow together into a large easily removed oil drop, which rises to the top of the water level.

Coalescing media are available in a variety of materials of construction to meet the requirements of:

- Cost
- Temperature
- Corrosion resistance
- Orientation
- Chemical compatibility
- Specific gravity
- Surface area
- Solid concentration
Custom Media-Oil Water Separator (CM-OWS) Packs
A CM-OWS from Ellis is the most efficient way of upgrading open flow channels or API's. The sloped plates and cross ribs force the flow to change directions resulting in the oil droplets contacting the surface of the media and coalescing with other droplets, forming a large easily floated oil layer. To upgrade an existing open channel separator, the media frames are constructed to fill the width of the channel, while the bottom frame is usually elevated to create a sludge accumulation chamber. The full range of coalescing media can be incorporated into CM-OWS packs. Improved oil recovery and sludge removal equipment are standard options.

CM-OWS frames are self supporting, stackable and are installed to the top of the operating side water depth.
